Mini Permaculture Oasis Video & Garden Update
I subscribe to Huw Richards' YouTube channel and this video was featured in my news feed today. I loved her and her garden. She built this lovely and productive garden on sand! I found that amazing. She also shared the secret to her stable pallet-based raised beds. I decided to post the video here so hopefully it will help a reader and also so I can easily find it again. Please comment if you'd like me to post more of the videos I watch that I find intriguing and//or helpful. I'd be glad to do so if it interests people.
My own garden has a few permaculture elements and I'm hoping to add more (or move to a place more suitable for vegan homesteading). At the moment, it's mostly flowers for interest and we do have bees on our little cherry tree and one Brussels sprout plant survived the winter (or sprouted up during it?) and I'm looking forward to my first harvest of that this spring. There's also some kale that looks ready to harvest a little bit of so I'm planning to have that in a salad this week. I don't see any evidence of my saffron crocus having survived so I'm guessing the squirrels had a feast.
Because of Jess at Root and Refuge's great experience with them, I invested in a couple Greenstalks, which were delivered today. Although I'm very excited to get started, I have a few injuries that prevent me from setting them up just yet so I've asked my husband to do that for me on his next day off. I ordered one original and one leaf. The original has five layers and the leaf has seven. It will be interesting to compare their production with that of our raised beds.
