Purple Coneflower Planting
Yesterday I planted three whole but heavily picked over seed heads in a weedy area (I'll need to weed before they sprout).
Today I planted two more whole but heavily picked over seed heads by the sidewalk in my xeric/natural garden (which has mostly become overrun with weeds, except for the areas that better plants (mountain mint, variegated vinca, echinacea etc.) spread thickly.
We leave the seed heads out over the winter for birds to feed on and the American goldfinches particularly love them. We usually get volunteers every year, which is great as I can spread them to places I want them.
