Today I planted my first "Vaccinium 'Sunshine Blue' Dwarf Blueberry"plant in the ground. I have a picture of the tag but despite at least four attempts, it won't upload here. At least I can search for it by the date of this post though (for future reference) and I did poke it into the ground near the blueberry plant.

The tag says full sun but I put it in a part shade area. It'll get full sun in the winter and spring, and morning and early afternoon sun in the heat of the summer. I think our full blazing sun here in the summer might be a bit much for it but if I'm wrong it's small enough to move again if needed. It arrived quite a while ago and I've been putting it out during the day for weeks so now that we aren't expecting any more nights in the 30s I figured it was a good time to plant it. Surprisingly, it didn't appear to be pot bound.

My husband was kind enough to add on a new 4x4 foot raised bed (making three total) so I planted a row of kale in it today to celebrate. Like when I planted the
carrots, I made a shallow trough (this time using a skinny stick) and dropped the seeds in, aiming to keep them about two inches apart (I plan to harvest it as baby kale so it can be closer together, I think) but they were tiny and round and fell all over the place. I had planned to plant spinach today but the packets say to wait.

Just for my future reference (and anyone's curiosity), here's the back of the kale seed packet.

And at the top of this picture are the details of how the seed should have been planted.
I am impressed with Baker Seeds' informative and beautiful seed packets. The fronts are a work of art. Their catalog is beautiful too. I have some more things to plant from that order but it's a bit early for direct sowing for them. I'm hoping, now that it's warmer, to plant something most days. And to take care of the rest of the herbs that spent two years in tiny pots in the
window box.
While I was out there, I pulled more of those Hercules weeds. There's already one that's over six feet tall and beyond my ability to dislodge. Hopefully my husband will be willing to yank that one out this weekend (before it gets even stronger). I should have taken a picture of it. Maybe one of my kind readers will know what it is.
Thank you for visiting! May God bless you and all you do!
